Heya Parents This one is about the state of obesity amongst North Eastern Children. Please don't think i am being condisending here i just really want to change the growing childhood obesity epidemic. When i first moved to County Durham i carried out a bit of research about obesity, CHD's, strokes, diabetes and other illnesses related to being overweight. Because that's what they all are: What i found out shocked me, County Durham is the second worse place in UK for most of the above issues, and the second worse place in Europe for others. Unlike football we are streets ahead of our European counterparts when it comes to poor health related to eating too much of the wrong sort of food. The worrying thing is that childhood diabetes and obesity is some of the worste in Europe and within Eastern County Durham in particular it is a UK / Europe wide trouble spot. A child with obesity or diabetes is 4 times more likely to suffer with these issues later as an adult and much more likely to have a less productive life. I took war lass and the girls to the North East live show and the amount of morbidly obese little girls we noticed disturbed us, these poor children are not being given a fair chance at an adult life because they are already suffering from poor health including a lack concentrating, breathing problems, irregular body functions not to mention self esteem and other emotional hormonal issues. Parenting is not easy however giving in to your childs wishes for fast food or grey carbs every day could be shortening your childs life by decades, this is not an easy pill to swallow but is the truth. What to do:
TAKE FULL RESPONSIBILTY for your childs health.
Eat healthier as a family, learn whats good and bad. It isnt too hard just google it.
Make them move more, even a long walk each day is better than just watching tv eating.
Drink more water and try and ditch fizzy high sugar drinks, even diet drinks are not good for your child.
If you can get them into a sport or get them into a gym.
If you live near Chester Le Street
We are offering a free consultation to help tackle any health concerns of your kids.
A summer holiday gym membership for your kids for only £25 for the whole of July and August.
A training plan specifically to help with youth weight loss.

So we are just 14 days into a 28 day toning challenge that we have put on for our members. It's a challenge that one of my staff (lauren) has taken on and is running with, a progressive resistance and interval program including a carb cycling nutrition plan.
The training here is something similar to what i provide my PT clients, so i know it really works.
What are they doing:
A split training plan mixing up muscle groups employing building/strength ranges and different intervals each day. The weight training builds up each week from super slow weights, to super sets, to drop set/supersets. If this makes no sense, then basically every week is very hard and progressively gets tougher to ensure great muscular improvements and weight loss with the meal plan.
I am trying to keep out of it, however chatting to two slim ladies from the challenge late last week and one had lost 6lb and the other 8lb. The amazing thing i thought was that both of them are very very slim and i found it hard to see how that much weight came off.
You see if you follow a great program properly you get great results and if you follow a great program partially you will get partial results.
So they are doing great and you could be too if you employed a great program and nutrition plan.

This blog is about the benefits of team building exercises for companies, personal trainer Glenn Hill from itrainhard fitness has been helping the Army on exercise exec stretch. So lots of North East companies have met in the Otterburn training area (OTA) in Northumberland and put themselves in Army environments and conducted team building activities. Companies such as British Gas have sent their employees to be tested and trained by Regular and Reserve British Army instructors for two days in order to improve the teamwork, leadership, communication and professionalism. There is no doubt that corporate training is amazing for improving the effectiveness of any company. So Glenn from itrainhard has been conducting a leadership task involving taking teams of mixed professions across a boulder field with booby traps in order to test command and control. The task itself had no right and wrong way but tested all the components of any good business professional. If you would like to improve the effectiveness of any business please get in touch and join the huge numbers of large companies that understand that corporate team building is not just a good to have, it's a must have. Get in touch with Glenn Hill and the itrainhard team as we have a number of locations and activities which can test any company in a bespoke manner. Glenn (ex Para Engineer) Hill 01913874222

Top Ten Training Tips from Itrainhard, The Health and Fitness Professionals
In life these days there are so many conflicting stories and rumours about health and fitness, let me pass on the tips i have learned over 20 years fitness which i use for myself and my clients.
Don't worry about the exact amount of calories you use during exercise (i.e. counting calories used on the display of a machine-they are so inaccurate and not worth following), and instead focus on what hapens after (which include the calories you burn after an intense strength session). To burn more fat over a 24-hour period (and not to mention, get in great shape), go as hard as you can in short burst which ensures max intensity.
2. You Can’t Out-Train a Poor Diet
This statement has always been true just like you can't out train stress. If you commit to a diet of clean food -mainly all colors of plants, lean quality proteins, good healthy fats, and grains like quinoa and limit processed refined food, fast food, sugar, super starchy grains, and trans fats, you can see tremendous results in your body.
3. Start Your Day with Exercise
Are you too busy or too lazy for fitness? Just try and fit in fitness first thing. Research shows that people who work out first thing in the morning work out more often. Why? Because you’re less likely to make excuses when you get it done before something else can get in your way.
4. Always Do What You Love
A healthy hobby is one of the best ways of maintaining health for life. However just doing slow running because you love it wont work (same training=same results). If you’re injured, switch gears and focus on another aspect of your fitness until you heal. Never stop searching for the right workout and schedule until you create exactly what works for you.
5. Throw Weights Around
I run a ladies gym and i tell all of my female members that the best way for a great toned body is throwing around heavy weights. Especially heavy weights and perform multi-joint exercises such as deadlifts, squats, and push presses. If your goal is to look toned and lose belly fat, combine 20 minutes of high-intensity cardio and 20 minutes of strength training for your workout—you’ll be finished in just 40 minutes and be in the best shape of your life.
6. Listen to Your Body, Not Your Mind
Your body knows better! On days when you don’t feel like working out, that’s your mind talking. Your body yearns for movement, circulation, and healing. When I’m having one of those days, I’ll take a few moments just to breathe well, and invariably, my arms want to stretch and I might press my hands into a wall and lengthen my spine—anything. And it always feels better.
7. More Muscles in Less Time
For the best exercise selection, focus on compound moves, not isolation exercises. A compound movement is something that engages every muscle in your body -such as pull-ups, pushups, or planks- whereas isolation exercises focus only on one muscle group (bicep curl). Compound movements will make you stronger, more explosive, and more toned than anything else.
8. Only a Fool Breaks the Two Day Rule
A top tip and a good rule of thumb is to stick to the two day rule: Never go more than two days in a row without a workout. It’s a game I play with myself, and I can’t lose. People that have longer periods of rest than exercise are fat and unfit and that is a fact, next time you spend a long weekend without exercise look down at your belly.
9. Think of Food as Fuel
Think of your food as fuel and not as a reward or something to satisfy your taste buds or cravings. Cravings for red bull or coffee or anything else only happen because your body is expecting them and feels as though it needs them/cut them out and eventually feel much better.
10. Small Changes Work Best
Making big changes and statements never work (just look at every New Years resolution you have ever made), so make small changes for lasting results. Most people feel results in two weeks, but can see results in six. Try this small change: Drink water before and during every meal and go to bed an hour early each day during the week, this will reduce overeating and improve your bodies repair process which will ensure more fat burning and better health without any exercise(promise).
Anyhoo just 10 of my favourite tips myself and clients use to remain in great shape well past 30 years of age.
Lots of people think hiring a personal trainer can be quite daunting and frankly they don´t know where to start and who to look to. In this blog I would like to outline what you need to look for when hiring a PT and what should make you run a mile.
A huge problem with personal trainers these days is that it takes barely any thing to become qualified and because of this it seems like everyone and their dog is a PT. At the moment the market is saturated and you often pay the same for an absolute cowboy as you do for a real professional.
So what do you need to look out for when deciding to hire a trainer.
The first thing to keep in mind is that the big famous gyms are much more interested in money than quality and will generally hire anyone with a level 3 qual who applies for a job. Most respected trainers left the chain gyms a long time ago to work for smaller more private gyms or to set up their own studio.
That is not to say that there are no good trainers in the chain gyms, but you´ll have to look harder to find one. If you have a gym membership you are in a unique position to study some of the trainers and watch how attentive they are to their clients and how busy they are, good trainers are usually busy trainers.
The next thing to bare in mind is that you need to find a trainer who specialises in what you want. Most trainers have three or four areas of specialty so you should have no problem finding a match.
For example if you are a middle aged lady you wont get the same service from a PT that trains both sexes as you will with a female specialist PT.
Check out their recommendations and history, is it good? do they come highly recomended?
Self investment is a great indication of how serious and professional the PT is, so without a number of extra qualifications and knowledge the trainer will have limited knowledge and experience which means they may not have all of the answers for you.
The last thing i want to talk about is marketing and content because its all about a trainer investing in themselves and their clients. If a PT has a well established web site/s and provides a lot of content through blogs and articles it proves they are always learning and able to help clients through knowledge.
So with all the info above in mind you should have no problems hiring a good quality trainer in your area who will get you the great results you´re after and if not…. then give me a call
